Recently I read an article on on a friend's Facebook page claiming to know the origins of the "Gators Wear Jean Shorts" insult.
I was entertained but knew this wasn't the truth!
In the article "The Real Story Behind "Gators Wear Jean Shorts" someone name Kevin Davis claims to be the creator of the term but I know differently!I have to tell you...it's entertaining but not factually correct. Robert Lammers started the "Gators Wear Jean Shorts" saying; and not by coincidence it was the same year (1997). We were on our way into the stadium and some Gator was giving Rob and I crap (as well as the 8 other Dawgs around us). So I started chanting LSU! LSU! LSU! the 8 UGA fans chimed in b/c y'all lost to them 3 weeks earlier. But then...in the midst of our inebriation we forgot we'd lost to Tennessee and the mostly UF crowd walking in with us starts chanting "Tennessee! Tennessee! Tennessee!"
Lammers thinking quick on his feet and out of no where goes right at the perfect moment of silence..."Oh yeah! At least we don't wear Jean Shorts!" and the UF fans didn't know what to do! The guy behind me (may have been the dude Kevin Davis & his frat brothers mentioned in the article) started going "Jean Shorts! Jean Shorts! Jean Shorts!" and we all chimed in. Then I threw in "Gold Chains! Gold Chains! Gold Chains! (which eventually flopped).
It was the only thing that shut Gator fans up! They also mostly started looking at each others outfits and ours and knew WE WERE RIGHT! So after reading this article...I thought you might want to know the truth.
We didn't continue the chant in the stadium; Kevin did. I'll give him that. But he wasn't the creator. Just the carrier of the torch in a long line of Gator Haters.
But again...the article tells us you didn't do your homework and shows...
